SweepUp is a student pilot project. We believe in being honest about what data we collect and why — no legal fog, no surprises. Here's the plain truth.
What we collect
Account info: Username, email, password (hashed — we never see it).
Chore photos: Before and after photos you take when verifying a chore. These are stored on our server during the testing phase.
Completion records: Which chores you completed, when, how many points you earned, and the AI's confidence score.
Optional demographics: Living situation, how often you clean, what motivates you, and year in school — asked during onboarding. You can skip any of these.
Optional product preferences: If you answer our post-chore survey, we record what cleaning product you used.
Usage events: Behavioral data like which pages you visit, which chores you tap, and how you navigate the app. This helps us understand what's working.
Date of birth: Used solely to verify you're 18 or older. We store it to comply with our own age policy.
How your photos are used
Photos you take are sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o for AI verification — to check whether the before and after images show meaningful cleaning. We also store a copy on our server during the testing phase so we can review AI performance and improve the system.
Your photos are never shared with anyone, sold, or used in AI training datasets. They will be deleted at the end of the testing phase or when you delete your account.
What brands see
Brands on SweepUp sponsor rewards. They see aggregate, anonymized patterns only — for example, "68% of users completed a kitchen chore this week" or "the most popular chore tier was medium."
Brands never see your individual data, your photos, your name, or your email. Ever.
Your rights
View your data: Email us and we'll send you everything we have on your account.
Delete your account: Email us with "Delete my account" and we'll remove all your data within 7 days, including stored photos.
Opt out of surveys: The product survey after chore completion is always optional — just tap Skip.
Skip demographics: Every onboarding question has a "Prefer not to say" option.
Data storage & security
Your data is stored on Railway (a US-based cloud provider). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Photos are stored in a private directory on the same server as your account, not in a public cloud bucket.
We don't use tracking cookies. We don't use ad networks. We don't sell your data. This is a student project — we just want it to work well and to understand how people use it.
